2010 solo exhibition — Trilogy Of Jam Wu's Solo Exhibition Ⅰ — Visiting her with a basket of fruit, DunNan Eslite bookstore. © Jam Wu. Photo courtesy of the artist. In this first solo exhibition, a trilogy is presented based on literary contemplations, and the trilogy is comprised of “Visiting her with a basket of fruit”, “He is the flowers filled with the mountain”, and “Blossoms mean — decay, brilliance, and destiny”. The overall presentation includes visuals; animations and video installations; and 2D and 3D installations. The three venues for the exhibitions are DunNan Eslite Bookstore, Koo Foundation Sun Yat-Sen Cancer Center, and Bamboo Curtain Studio. The objective is to conduct dialogues with the public in these three vastly different experimental venues, and by returning to the folkloric realm, my intention is to see the possibilities for my works to develop. In the first part of the trilogy, I’ve returned for the first time to think about the visual images and to try to converse with the traditional folkloric cultures and to share the intimate warmth from my memories. The return to the sentimental side in life is a dedication to my families for their great impact in my creative journey and also to the great ladies of Shaanxi that I met in my travels. How to juxtapose “the violent nature of paper-cutting” with “family love”; the tug between “private personalism” and “the public nature in art”; and also how to conduct dialogues between “traditional folklore” with “the future for the contemporary”, these are all issues I intend to personally investigate.
