In the project One Thousand And One Nights, Wu follows the pace of jogging, his favorite sport, to regulate the quantity of the final works and to collectively demonstrate these artists’ state of mind in their daily life. A piece of paper is mailed to a participator (selected by Wu), who is requested to willingly (or compulsorily) produce a paragraph as an exchange for the “gift.” Therefore, we see a collection of images and written texts as huge as Proust’s novels. It is an exchange between art-producing as well as time-spending. The artist has once said that “hopefully the words are the only thing left in the project.” Does the exchange between art-producing make it possible to translate our imagination from “image viewing” to “text reading?” The project of “exchanging paper cutting for written text” is still ongoing, and it makes us more curious about how the final work may look like.
